Wednesday, on Valentine's Day, flowers, candies, cards and other presents -- 17.6 billion dollars worth -- will be given as an expression of love and appreciation. It is good we do this -- show our love and care for each other. But love isn't a "one day thing." It's not about show and flash. Love is our constant throughout the day, and it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. We can listen, smile, affirm; stay up all night with a sick child, a dying loved one -- maybe spend some of that 17 billion toward getting someone prescription drugs they can't afford, put food on someone's table, a roof over a family's head, gas for someone's car, caring for the environment. The ways to love are endless, like our God. So let's not limit ourselves to one day! As we prepare to enter Lent next week, let us open our hearts to God's new ways for us to love in the world. And in case you didn't get a Valentine, here is God's Divine Valentine message to you -- every day, for always:
